Model synthesis for sustainable hydropower in the future

The project will guide future model development and facilitate comprehensive analyses for a sustainable and fossil-free energy future.

Hydropower is a key player in the energy system of the future, both as a renewable energy source and as a provider of flexibility, storage and stability. At the same time, there are higher demands for ecological consideration and adaptation to climate change.

Today, there are many models that study hydropower, but they are often used separately and lack an overview of sustainability aspects. This project maps these aspects and analyses how existing models can be combined. The results highlight strengths, limitations and knowledge gaps, and provide guidance for future model development and comprehensive analyses that support a sustainable energy future.
