Sustainable, safe, and optimised hydropower is the key factor in Sweden's transition to a sustainable energy system, while protecting river biodiversity. Multidisciplinary research and innovative solutions, in close collaboration with industry and the public sector, strengthen our position among the international leaders in hydropower and river systems research.

Objectives

Building and maintaining resilient and internationally attractive research environments is an important part of our strategy. Close collaboration with the Centre’s stakeholders throughout the project period will provide graduates with a large professional network and facilitate their retention in hydropower. The long-term goal of the Centre is to be able to respond to changing circumstances:

• ensure that the industry has the necessary knowledge and practices to maintain safe and long-lasting hydropower plants,
• contribute to a solid scientific basis for the implementation of measures for the ecological rehabilitation of river systems,
• optimise the use of water in regulated rivers by balancing the needs of different stakeholders, including the supply of renewable, fossil-free electricity to society.
