Hydropower R&D days 2026
Karlstad, longest stone arch bridge in Sweden, built 1797.
Welcome to the 2026 Hydropower R and D days! We will meet at Karlstad University on March 11 and 12 to learn about the exciting research being conducted at the Swedish Centre for Sustainable Hydropower, SVC.
How do I get to the conference?
The conference is held mainly in “Geijersalen” and the open area outside of this room which is called “12-torget”. Both are in “Hus 12”, which you will find easily by entering the main entrance and following the signs for “Hus 12” and “SVC”. When in doubt, just ask at the reception. The address for the main building is “Universitetsgatan 2”.
If you arrive at Karlstad Central Station, or spent the night at any of the hotels in the “city centre”, you need to take the bus #1 (aptly named “Karlstad Campus Futurum”) for about 10 minutes from “Stora torget”, the main square in Karlstad.
Lastly, if you find yourself disoriented by these instructions, you can use Google Maps and search directly for “Geijersalen” and follow the instructions therein.
You can also find more instructions and maps on Karlstad University’s website: Campuskartor | Karlstads universitet
Dinner
Dinner will be held at Stadshotellet on the 11th of March. We will have their famous “Värmlandsbuffé” with locally and organically produced foods. Drinks will be served at 18:30, so please be on time.
Elite Stadshotell is in the city centre, a 10-minute walk away from most hotels.
Accommodation
Accommodation is not included, and as such needs to be arranged by each participant. We recommend staying at the hotels close to “Stora Torget” in Karlstad city centre, such as Elite Stadshotel, Best Western Hotel Savoy and Hotel Bilan. From “Stora Torget” you can easily take the bus #1 to campus.
SVC Research School, 9th and 10th of March
A PhD-course will be held by Mahboobeh Hajiesmaeili of Karlstad University on the 9th and 10th of March at Karlstad University and online. Information on this can be found here Research School 2026: Introduction to Salmonid IBMs – svc-energiforsk. If you are interested in joining, talk to your project manager or sign up directly by emailing Michel Cervantes, our SVC Research School coordinator, at Michel.Cervantes@ltu.se.
Study visit to Gammelkroppa lax or Forshaga
A study visit will be held after lunch on the 12th. Those who have signed up for this will gather at “12-torget” before traveling together to Gammelkroppa lax or Forshaga. There you will either visit the state-of-the-art aquaculture facility at Gammelkroppa lax, or in Forshaga. The visit will take approximately 3-4 hours, so you can expect to be back at Karlstad by 18:00. This event is limited to max. 50 persons, where ”first come, first serve”.
To get to the bus after lunch on the second day, go to this parking lot beside the library:
Workshop session
After lunch on the first day there will be a workshop led by Johan Watz from Karlstad University. The aim of this workshop is to share and discuss passage solutions for salmonids and other fish species in Swedish river systems. Attendance is limited to 38 people, and the workshop is aimed towards those of you who work with, research or aim to work with or research passage solutions for fish.
Poster session
During the conference, we will have a poster session with as many of our research projects represented as possible. If you have a recently finished or ongoing project within SVC, please bring a poster and answer accordingly in the form.
