Hydropower R&D days 2026

Karlstad, longest stone arch bridge in Sweden, built 1797.

The date and venue for the 2026 Hydropower R&D Days have now been booked! Next year, we will meet at Karlstad University on March 11 and 12 to learn about the exciting research being conducted at the Swedish Centre for Sustainable Hydropower, SVC.

As usual, we will be offering a mix of topics from the centre’s research areas, but you can expect a little extra emphasis on ecology and especially fish , which are Karlstad University’s areas of specialisation within SVC. We will combine discussions, lectures, study visits, student events, good food and wonderful company to make this the best conference possible – see you in Karlstad!

This time, we are hosted by Karlstad University!

Please make sure that you sign up to the correct group. If you are unsure, contact us: kontakt@energiforsk.se.

Regarding the conference

Accommodation
Accommodation is not included, and as such needs to be arranged by each participant. We recommend staying at the hotels close to “Stora Torget” in Karlstad city centre, such as Elite Stadshotel, Best Western Hotel Savoy and Hotel Bilan. From “Stora Torget” you can easily take the bus #1 to campus.

SVC Research School, 9th and 10th of Marc
A PhD-course will be held by Mahboobeh Hajiesmaeili of Karlstad University on the 9th and 10th of March at Karlstad University and online. Information on this can be found here Research School 2026: Introduction to Salmonid IBMs – svc-energiforsk. If you are interested in joining, talk to your project manager or sign up directly by emailing Michel Cervantes, our SVC Research School coordinator, at Michel.Cervantes@ltu.se.

Study visit to Gammelkroppa lax or Forshaga
A study visit will be held after lunch on the 12th. Those who have signed up for this will gather at “12-torget” before traveling together to Gammelkroppa lax or Forshaga. There you will either visit the state-of-the-art aquaculture facility at Gammelkroppa lax, or in Forshaga. The visit will take approximately 3-4 hours.

Workshop session
After lunch on the first day there will be a workshop led by Johan Watz from Karlstad University. The aim of this workshop is to share and discuss passage solutions for salmonids and other fish species in Swedish river systems. Attendance is limited to 38 people, and the workshop is aimed towards those of you who work with, research or aim to work with or research passage solutions for fish.

Poster session
During the conference, we will have a poster session with as many of our research projects represented as possible. If you have a recently finished or ongoing project within SVC, please bring a poster and answer accordingly in the form.
